Antonio Pierce Goodbye and Good Riddance
Antonio Pierce has been released from the New York Giants and as a fan living in New York I have been surprised to hear how many fans are upset by this move. I am not one of them. I think the Giant defense just got better by his departure.
Antonio Pierce was a good middle linebacker for the G-Men 2 years ago, but now he is a liability on the field. He has become very slow and soft, two very bad traits for a middle linebacker. The last two seasons he has been getting run over by running backs, easily blocked by lineman, and unable to pursue anyone on the field. Pierce was a large part of the problem with the defense this past season as the Middle Linebacker is the Quarterback of the Defense and certainly didn’t lead on the field.
It hasn’t helped that he is a very vocal player who can no longer live up to the self-absorbed hype he spews in the locker room and in the press. Let us not forget that he was tied up in the Plaxico Burress mess that spilled over into training camp sue to court dates thus causing further distractions that should have been removed when Plaxico was released.
In fairness I will say that he was very classy in the press following the release expressing his gratitude to the organization during his time in New York and that he has nothing but good memories during his Giant tenure. Class aside, I am happy to see Pierce go and wish him nothing but luck if he finds a new home, though I am happy he will not continue to drag the Giants down.
Changes
Based on the recommendations of my wife, MomontheRise who told me that MochaDad suggested it even though he didn’t because she thought that I would take the recommendation better from a man-blogger that I like, I am changing the structure on my blog. I have to admit that I am hot and cold about blogging, mostly cold, mainly because I am not passionate about it. I am extremely passionate about football, NFL in particular, and am going to make my blog about football. My favorite team is the New York Giants, but plan on talking about the entire league. I will include college football and even high school if something grabs me. Also, I will include how football effects my family as my wife is forced to endure me during the season and how I successfully attempt to make my little girl as rabid a fan as I am. I say successful because she already watches games with me and gets excited about want is happening on the field. This blog my evolve to include all sports, but right now just want to concentrate on football.
Football Is Gone, But Not Forgotten
Congrats to the Saints for their huge win, but just because the Super Bowl is over doesn’t mean that football is over. Rather the 2010 football season is beginning. Soon I will be able to forget how my beloved Giants quit on their fans and completely tanked the rest of 09. The Scouting Combine begins in 7 short days on Wednesday, February 24th and we get our first look and the fresh meat about to enter the NFL. So don’t think for a second that football is gone. Oh no the NFL is alive and well and steaming towards Week 1 of the 2010 season.
