Friday Rant

Garbage

Today’s Rant will be a product review, of course, a negative review.  This Thanksgiving we purchased 4 Hefty EZ Ovenware 2 quart casserole pans with lids.  These pans were the biggest waste of money for several reasons.

First, they are almost twice as much as there aluminum counterparts.  I don’t mind paying more, but you should get what you pay for and unfortunate for me I didn’t.  I was forced to by them because they were the only disposable pans left and now I know why.

Second, the pans a so flimsy.  They are almost impossible to pick up.  In order to move them you need two hands underneath or the bend and twist the food onto the floor.  I put less than a pound of roasted vegetables in one and almost fumbled it.  I think a paper-towel would have worked better.

Finally, the lids that are so special that make sure to emphasize on the label.  The covers don’t fit on the pans.  As far as I can figure you simply place them on top of the food and they are supposed to just lay there clumsily.  Don’t walk to fast by them because the breeze you create will make it fall cooling off your dinner.

I will never under any circumstances purchase this product again and I suggest everyone to stay away.  This product was a complete waste of money and the only blemish on a perfect Thanksgiving.

Friday Rant Again

This Friday Rant is so important that it needs to be readdressed as I was trying to get to work today and was late because some idiot was of course driving in the left lane doing 45 and the speed limit is 50.  This is particularly bad because he/she was driving parallel to another vehicle doing 50 on the two-lane highway.  So here we are again with the re-posted Friday Rant from two weeks ago.

Friday is such a great day of the week and I like to have a weekly decompression session.  Friday Rant allows a cleansing, if you will, of negative energy before the weekend.  This week the it is time to address people who cruise in the left lane on our highways and byways.  I get a bit of the road rage, actually it can get pretty bad.  The Tornado screams at cars when they use the horn, another pet peeve to be addressed in a future installment, because she is around me driving so much.

Let us make one thing clear; the left lane is the passing lane.

Everyday driving to work is a chore.  I begin my work day at 3pm and am forced to endure the inevitable idiot, and yes I mean you if it applies, that finds the need to move to the left lane and do the speed limit.  If you are this person please explain to me why you drive in the left lane.

First of all, yes I am a New Yorker.  Second of all, yes I am admitting to driving above the speed limit.  Finally, yes I probably should leave earlier for work.  But, none of this really matters because the left lane of a two lane road is meant to be a passing lane.  It is a simple concept – drive in the right lane and when you approach a vehicle opting to drive slower than you move to the left lane.  Then return to the right lane to continue your trip.

So as I was saying going to work I will be driving along in the right lane and try to pass a car on the left, but get boxed in by someone doing the speed limit, or worse, less than the speed limit.  To make matters even worse, when I flash the driver, which means move over, they just remain on course and even slow down.  I, of course, proceed to go berserk spitting obscenities as if the other driver can hear me and pounding on my steering wheel.  My heart can’t take it, I have high blood pressure.

Please stay to the right.

I am not asking for much, just drive your car.  I have no problem if you want to drive the speed limit or even slower in the right lane.  It is your prerogative to drive at a rate that you feel comfortable.  But, once you move to the left you become am obstacle.

I feel my blood boiling as I type this, so for my health and well-being I am going to end this right now with a simple plea, Get out of my way!

Friday Rant

Welcome to the USA land of the free, home of the brave, and the country where you pay more for less.  Everyday it becomes more apparent that the new  American way for businesses to up their prices and cut their portions.

I went to work today during an earlier shift and went to the cafeteria for lunch.  It has been awhile since I have worked a shift when the cafeteria was open.  Right before I went for my lunch a co-worker warned me that the soup changed as the bowls got considerably smaller and the price went up.  Of course when I went in for soup the small bowl became the large and the small bowl was more like a cup.  Then they had the nerve to up the price $.40 across the board.

This practice is becoming more and more evident.  McDonald’s burgers have become the size of bottle caps and the 2 cheeseburger meal is the same price as the Big Mac meal.  My gas station used to be full serve with self serve prices; now they are self serve and up their prices and are now higher than most other stations.  Even my health insurance at work is costing me a little more, but the benefits have declined significantly with high deductibles and co-pays.

At what point do we as consumers say enough is enough and demand to be treated fair.  I can understand raising prices or cutting portions, but to do both is ridiculous.  Everyday I notice it more and more and am really getting sick of it; just give me what I pay for, nothing more and certainly nothing less.
